While it's important to make sure you pack your golf bag with the right amount of clubs, you also want to remember to pack your golf glove.

New golfers tend to underestimate the importance of a glove, and I have seen many times, what appear to be beginner golfers, out there swinging gloveless like they are playing baseball.

They don’t understand how often grip comes up in swing tips for all the golf shots, and to make sure your grip is better, a glove has a significant impact!

In this article, I will ask the common question "which hand do you wear a golf glove on" and go through the types of golf gloves available for you.

What are the Types of Golf Gloves?

Soft leather and synthetic, these are your two go to materials with golf gloves.

Soft leather gloves are made from REAL Cabretta leather and provide a good grip.

Synthetic gloves are just that: synthetic materials are used, cheaper (price wise) than leather, and are also pretty lightweight and breathable.

If you’re reading this from a humid place, that material might be better for you.

What is the purpose of wearing a golf glove?

GRIP! This is probably the most beneficial aspect. You don’t want your grip becoming inconsistent in your hands during your swing or your club completely flying out of your hands into the woods (sort of kidding, but we have all seen the social media posts).

If your grip loosens even slightly, that can change the face angle of your club on contact with the ball and send it where you don’t want it.

I tried not wearing a glove, but it was not helpful at all. I felt way more confident in my grip and swing with a glove on my hand.

A glove can also protect your hand from blisters, which is important. While learning how to hit my driver more consistently, as well as testing out all the different clubs, I couldn't imagine the blisters I would have hitting so many balls if I didn't wear a glove.

Which Hand Do You Wear a Golf Glove On?

It's a trick question (not really!), but it depends on your dominant hand.

Right handed players: wear the golf glove on your left hand; if you

Left handed players:  you should wear it on your right hand.

Simple enough?

Should a Golf Glove Fit Tight of Loose?

You may be surprised to learn that the golf glove is one piece of equipment that gets overlooked.

Look at some of your playing partners next time you are on the course. You might see holes around their thumb or the palm area of a glove being all torn and faded.

I know it sounds silly on the surface, but the Swiss cheese golf glove can impact your swing in a crappy way.

As much as the glove is a fashion statement, it does make a difference in your game.

Too Loose: will not help you with your club grip.

Too Tight: can cause discomfort, increasing your chances of blisters (I think that is the worst).

There should be some flexibility and movement in the fingers while allowing for a secure and comfortable grip.

How do you know if your glove is too small?

You can’t close your hand and make a fist or pull a mini hulk, which shreds as soon as you flex your hand.

If you have wider hands, it’s okay if you do, a cadet style glove offers a wider and more appropriate sizing to help you out.

Are there golf gloves for different weather?

Some gloves are made specifically for bad weather, mainly wet and rainy.

These rain gloves provide a bit extra grip and are usually made of synthetic materials that allow water to be repelled, giving you that extra grip.

There are also winter gloves for the golfers of all four seasons (like me).

Winter gloves are typically made of thicker materials and may have additional insulation to keep your hands warm.

Can I Wear Two Golf Gloves?

Well, the good thing about freedom is you can do whatever you want, and some choose to wear two gloves while playing golf.

It CAN provide additional grip and a cozy, comfy feeling, especially in humid conditions. I really don’t feel comfortable in that style.

When playing baseball, I loved having two batting gloves, but for golf, I just find it uncomfortable and feel less in control with my right hand.

Aaron Rai is one of the most recent pro golfers I have seen wearing two gloves. He has been playing with this style since he was a junior golfer.

This is still the exception and not the rule.

Wearing two gloves can also be called "Two Gloves" or "Double Glove" style.

Although I think two gloves on the golf course can look strange, it can be a good option for those with hand injuries or arthritis.

At that point, enjoying the game and not causing further discomfort is on par with the importance of full swing performance.

What is the difference between cadet golf gloves and regular golf gloves?

Cadet golf gloves are designed for those with shorter fingers and wider palms. Regular golf gloves are made for golfers with standard hand proportions.
