Callaway Supersoft Golf Balls Review

Bottom Line

The Supersoft balls from Callaway are good for golfers seeking a balance between distance and feel.

They feature a HyperElastic SoftFast Core, which contributes to a faster ball speed off the tee while retaining a soft feel, appreciated especially during shots around the green.

The performance is quite notable in control and spin, offering a good mix that doesn't sacrifice distance, a trait appreciated by those of us who aren't necessarily pro-level.

I say “necessarily” very generously…

The Supersoft balls made it on both my Best Golf Ball for Slow Swing Speed and Best Golf Balls for High Handicappers round-up lists for good reason. They are a very reliable golf ball.

While these balls are not at the top end of the price spectrum, they certainly don't fall short in performance, making them a strong consideration for the average golfer who values a ball that performs well in a variety of conditions but doesn’t want to cringe at the thought of $5+ lost every time they shank a premium ball into the drink.

This technology offers a noticeable boost in ball speed, which golfers looking for a little bit of extra distance off the tee (all of us, obviously) can appreciate.

The feel around the greens is soft, which translates to better control when we need finesse – a pleasant surprise for a ball focusing on aiding distance for the average swinging golfer. 

This dual nature provides an admirable combination of control and power, putting it right where you want on longer shots without sacrificing the gentle touch on shorter, more delicate strokes.

Callaway has done a respectable job creating a ball that sits comfortably in the middle level of offerings, catering to players looking for softness and speed without an overbearing trade-off.

Hybrid Cover Construction

The use of rubber in the hybrid cover contributes significantly to their performance. The material choices offer a soft feel upon impact, greatly enhancing the playing experience.

The cover's resilience also adds to the balls' durability, meaning we don’t have to worry as much about wear and tear over time. We will probably lose them before that. 

While the soft cover aids in better control and spin, those hit with more power or a faster swing speed may not match up well using the Callaway Supersoft.

What is the recommended swing speed for users of Callaway Supersoft Golf Balls?

Ideally, players with a slow to moderate swing speed (usually high handicap and most mid handicap golfers) would enjoy the Supersoft the most. 

More specifically, golfers with swing speeds around 85-95 mph would reap the most benefit in distance and overall feel.

How does the compression of Callaway Supersoft Golf Balls influence the game?

Given their low compression, around 38,  the Supersoft golf balls allow for a significant reduction in spin off the driver, which helps to straighten flight and minimize slices for players with slower swing speeds.

Callaway Supersoft vs Callaway Chrome Soft in feel and performance?

The Supersoft is indisputably softer and may provide better forgiveness overall. 

However, the Chrome Soft tends to excel in providing both a soft feel and higher spin rates, especially on shorter approaches and around the green. 

Choosing between them would hinge on prioritizing either control and spin (Chrome Soft) or a softer feel and potentially straighter flight (Supersoft).

Callaway Supersoft spin on greenside shots?

Not as much spin as some tour-level balls, but the Supersoft does provide decent control on greenside shots. 

The Hybrid Cover does allow for more wedge control, making them a solid choice for the amateur golfer seeking a blend of distance, feel, and spin.
