Do you have a swing speed consistently higher than 105 mph and need a driver that can help you reduce spin and get the full distance out of your swing?

In this article, I will share my PING G430 LST driver review after hitting dozens of balls on Trackman to give my honest opinion on the feel, distance, playability, and more delivered by this esthetically pleasing driver.

Let's jump right in!

PING G430 LST Driver Review In Short

PING G430 LST driver delivers exceptional performance in terms of lowering spin rates and allowing for a more controlled ball flight IF you have a higher swing speed.

It has fantastic distance, and it would be tough for golfers with higher swing speeds and consistent driver contact to stop themselves from at least testing out the G430 LST, and even spend money on this premium-looking and performing driver.

Pros and Cons of the PING G430 LST Driver

Pros

  • Low spin and long distance.

  • Smooth swinging and durable feel.

  • Decent forgiveness.

  • Well designed aesthetics.

Cons

  • Price.

PING G430 LST Driver Performance

Specs of the G430 LST driver I tested: 9.0 Loft, Standard Lie, Standard Length, Stiff Flex, Ping Alta CB 55 Slate Graphite shaft.

I tested it indoors on Trackman and hit 44 drives. I used RCT (Radar Capture Technology) golf balls to get accurate data. Here is the data from my testing session:

Appearance: A+

The esthetics of the PING 430 LST are similar to the PING G430 MAX driver and PING G430 SFT driver, except that the G430 LST has a slightly smaller club head at 440cc.

PING G430 LST Driver Forged Face

Size aside, the features and detail in the design are beautiful. The Carbonfly Wrap and the detail on the color scheme give it the premium looks deserved.

G430 LST driver and headcover

The face is beautifully designed and reminds me of a fighter pilots target/visuals for when they are locking in, which all leads to the sweet spot in the center.

PING G430 LST Driver Face

The only bout of controversy would be the turbulators carried over from the PING G425 MAX and other drivers in the G425 line. The turbulators are on the design for aerodynamic purposes, aiding with airflow around the driver head, and most either like them or don't (there isn't much in between).

I like them, and think it brings some uniqueness to compete with other drivers on the market.

Sound: A

Whatever PING has done, the sound is awesome compared to the former G425 line.

I was also surprised, probably because of the different head sizes and design targeting various features (e.g., low spin vs. forgiveness); the G430 LST had a bit more of a solid crack sound to it than the MAX version.

The is sound good and, as mentioned, is upgraded over the G425 line.

Forgiveness/Feel: A-

The feel if the PING G430 LST driver is durable and easy to swing with all the aerodynamic considerations added into the design; the slightly smaller driver head of 440cc also adds to that.

While the LST is not close to being as forgiving as the G430 MAX, it has a decent level of forgiveness for those days when you may not have as many center strikes.

Distance: A+

The driver is built for higher swing speeds and lowering spin, and even though it’s said that you won’t see the benefits unless you have that 105 mph swing speed as a floor, I had to test for myself.

I have been working on my swing speed, which I have now improved to an average of 95-97 mph. While testing the G430 LST, I could see the difference in how the club responded when I had my regular swing vs. when I turned it up a notch and swung with the intention of a higher swing speed.

The longest drive I hit with the G430 LST was 251 yards carry for 275 yards total. When I got my swing speed to around 100.5 or 101 mph on a few drives, you could see the distance capability and spin reduction.

I could actually feel the difference on impact with the driver face as well. If you have a high swing speed, you will see fantastic distance out of this driver.

Accuracy: A-

The accuracy and workability of the G430 LST driver was decent, however, it should be considered that the driver is intended for more faster swings and those that can make more consistent center-face contact with the ball.

The dispersion felt a wider than the other G430 drivers, which is not unusual, as it does have forgiveness but simply not in the same volume that the G430 MAX would.

Overall Swing Enjoyment: A

Even though my swing speed is not yet consistently at the 105 mph mark or over, I still thoroughly enjoyed swinging the G430 LST driver and can easily discern the qualities and offerings it has for golfers who have that optimal swing speed and contact consistency.

The aerodynamic design and slightly smaller head size than the other G430 drivers aid in providing a free swinging and smooth experience.

Value: Is the PING G430 LST Driver Worth it?

Like all the latest PING drivers, the G430 LST is no exception when it comes to a quality build and a smooth driver to swing.

The sound and look are phenomenal, and the low spin helps golfers get some nice distance when they are consistent with their driver contact.

Even with my average driver swing speed being under the 105mph swing speed floor needed to see the best benefits of the LST, it still felt great to hit, and I was hitting it a decent distance.

My driver swing is about average, and I am improving the speed, but I generally match up the face to path/club path quite well for center hits. When ramping up the speed for a few drives during testing, I could see the benefits of the G430 LST start to flourish.

I would not recommend it to anybody with a slower swing speed or who is inconsistent with the driver. The G430 SFT and G430MAX are better options for beginners and higher handicappers in this PING driver line.

If you are a mid handicap golfer with a strong driver game and higher swing speed or a low handicap, you will regret not trying the G430 LST. It’s a beautiful club.

The price is high but you will not be getting anything short of a classy result producing driver that will impact your game in a positive way moving forward.

PING G430 LST Driver Technology

CarbonFly Wrap Technology

The G430 LST Driver incorporates PING’s CarbonFly Wrap technology into the crown. This technology utilizes lightweight carbon fiber to reduce weight, allowing for better weight distribution and improved aerodynamics.

G430 LST Carbonfly Wrap

PING is trying to make the club smoother swinging for you by lightening the weight and helping cut down air resistance. I can attest that the club feels very smooth on the swing path.

Optimized T9S+ Forged/Variable-Thickness Face

The G430 LST also boasts a variable-thickness face, with the intent to optimize ball speed across the entire hitting surface.

The idea here is to give you consistent distance and a better forgiveness over the driver face.

Movable Weight and CG

The adjustable perimeter weighting system that allows you to adjust the center of gravity (CG) position. This will subsequently influence the ball flight and spin characteristics depending on your strength (draw, neutral, fade).

Tungsten weight G430 LST Driver

The moveable weight is 22 grams. I generally leave it at neutral, as I like the center balance and can hit my driver straight.

Aerodynamics and Turbulators

Here we are again! Another newer model PING driver and we are discussing the slightly polarizing turbulators.

As I’ve said before, the ones on the G430 line look way better than the G425 design.

Aside from the looks debate, PING implemented the turbulators to enhance airflow over the club head as you swing.

G430 LST Carbonfly Crown

The goal is to reduce drag and promote faster clubhead speeds for increased ball velocity. In short, it means faster club speed, faster ball speed, and further drives.

The club is smooth to swing, and performance is excellent, so PING has done its job.

FAQ

What does LST mean on the PING G430 LST driver?

The LST stands for "Low Spin Technology." This tech aims to reduce ball spin, with the idea that you can hit with a more controlled ball flight and enhanced distance.

What notable differences exist between the PING G430 LST and the G430 MAX model?

The G430 LST Driver has a more compact design than the G430 Max model, with a smaller front-to-back distance and a taller face.

PING G430 LST Driver Head

The LST driver head is 440cc, whereas the G430 MAX has the big boy 460cc driver head for that extra forgiveness.

Who Should Play the PING G430 LST Driver?

You have to have a good swing speed and consistently good swings to reap its full benefits.

If you are a beginner, higher handicap, or mid-handicap who (to put it bluntly) sucks with their driver, the G430 LST is not for you. You should try the PING G430 MAX or G430 SFT (Straight Flight Technology).

While it offers forgiveness, if you have a slower swing speed (under ~105 mph), the G430 LST may will not be as beneficial to you as the G430 MAX or SFT models.

Low handicap golfers with higher swing speeds: Worth a look for you. It is a beautiful club.
