Cobra LTDx Driver Review: Unveiling Performance
In this article, I will be sharing my honest Cobra LTDx driver review for those who are wondering if this club is still a good buy even though Cobra has the Aerojet driver and DARKSPEED driver lines available on the market.
The Cobra LTDx driver was released to the retail market in February 2022, so with two successor driver lines already released by Cobra, don't think the LTDx line is outdated technology.
I was fortunate to hit over 75 drives with the LTDx driver, so let's jump right in!
Cobra LTDx Driver Review in Short
It looks very modern and attractive, sounds fantastic, and feels spectacular. What more could you ask for in a driver?
Based on what the LTDx was engineered for, forgiveness, Cobra did not stop short on delivering a forgiving driver that can also compete in the distance category. The icing on the cake is the beautiful infinity symbol placed right on the face's sweet spot.
Pros and Cons of the Cobra LTDx Driver
Pros
More forgiving than your parents
Looks very modern and sleek
Great distance and feel.
The crack sound on contact!!
Cons
None at its price point.
Cobra LTDx Driver Performance
Specs of the LTDx I tested: 9.0 Degrees of Loft, Standard Lie, Standard Length, Regular Flex, Project X HZRDUS Smoke IM10 60 gram graphite shaft.
I tested the Cobra LTDx indoors with Trackman and tried to hit as many balls as I could. I hit 76 drives, and I loved every minute of it. I also used the Titleist Pro V1 RCT (Radar Capture Technology) golf balls to ensure the most accurate data.
Here is the averaged-out data from the 76 drives in my testing session:
Avg Yards | Avg Swing Speed | Avg Ball Speed | Avg Smash Factor |
220.61 | 90.45 mph | 129.15 mph | 1.43 |
The numbers look a bit pedestrian compared to what I have been able to put up with more recent drivers, like the Cobra Aerojet MAX and TaylorMade Qi10 MAX.
However, I don't want that to be misinterpreted to thinking the LTDx is now miles behind those other drivers in terms of performance. This differentiation in numbers is a result of me working hard on my driver swing and increasing swing speed in between hitting the various clubs.
I recommend everybody to do the same, and especially using Trackman or another analytics system, because you can see tangible results and improvement.
Appearance: A
The LTDx's aesthetics are not overly flashy, but the carbon crown adds to the visual appeal, and coupled with the Project X HZRDUS Smoke shaft in the model I tested, it is a very cool-looking driver.
The color scheme of the Cobra LTDx driver is subtle and classy. The black with the gold accent (of the one I tested) and pleasant touch of gold on the adjustable weight makes the LTDx scream elegance, yet not boasting in your face.
The infinity symbol on the face, representing the sweet spot, is probably the coolest addition in terms of looks and my favorite part.
You hit that sweet spot, and it’s to infinity and beyond!
Sound: A+
It can’t be repeated enough. The LTDx produced a very satisfying and confident sound at impact, enhancing the overall experience.
The drives struck near, or right on, the infinity symbol sweet spot produce an explosive crack, and the volume is what I would call in the “medium” range, neither overwhelming nor head-turning (in a negative way).
Forgiveness/Feel: A+
If you’re not hitting off the top of the driver head or the hosel, or your swing is completely AWOL, you should get relatively good help from the LTDx design providing forgiveness.
The MOI is high, with the 10-gram weight in the back position, making the LTDx a great choice for those that have more inconsistent driver swings and want enhanced forgiveness.
As for the feel, the LTDx has a solid and responsive impact, giving me the sense of control I desire when striking the ball. It's nice-and-easy to swing and well designed to provide that extra comfort level and stability.
Distance: A
As I mentioned above, distance is really good with the LTDx driver. Don't let my numbers fool you, at the time when my swing speed as barely above 90 mph on average I was still getting over 220 yards distance on average.
The low spin and fast speeds generated by the LTDx allowed me to achieve pretty good distance considering, as even the 90 mph average swing speed was generating just under 130 mph ball speed.
That is evidence that the LTDx, propelled by it's low spin design, is a fantastic club for the combination of forgiveness and distance.
Accuracy: A
The Cobra LTDx driver impressed me with its powerful and accurate performance. I found the club incredibly stable during my swings, contributing to its consistency during the testing.
When my driver goes awry, it is usually in the fashion of slicing a lot. While I did have a few go-slicing a little bit right in the testing session, the drives were generally straight or with a little baby fade, ending up in the fairway.
Overall Swing Enjoyment: A
The LTDx driver was such a pleasure to swing, overall.
The feel of the driver was very smooth, and I enjoyed the high MOI it provided. Even when I tried to swing a bit harder, the contact was quite strong, with minimal feedback from the club head. The free and easy design, along with the sound, adds to the enjoyment level.
Value: Is the Cobra LTDx Driver Worth it?
Simply put - the LTDx driver it is a fantastic club.
Put more elegantly, the LTDx's exceptional forgiveness stand out as a key selling point. It excels at keeping your shots on the fairway while boasting a contemporary appearance and a pleasing sound.
With its impressive quality and performance relative to its price, the Cobra LTDx is a compelling option to consider adding to your bag.
Ah yes, the price. This beautiful driver can now be found for as little as $249 brand new at the time of this article.
For a driver released in 2022 that feels this premium, the value of the LTDx driver at that price is incredible.
LTDx Driver Technology
PWR-COR
One of the key technologies in the LTDx is PWR-COR. This design feature positions an increased weight low and forward in the clubhead.
With 14 grams of internal weight and 5 grams of external mass, 19 grams is placed directly behind the clubface. This weight distribution helps generate faster ball speeds while maintaining a more stable and forgiving launch.
H.O.T face
Another vital element contributing to the performance of the LTDx driver is the H.O.T face. This High-Offensive-Trajectory face technology was designed to optimize distance and ball flight by increasing ball speed across a more significant portion of the clubface.
This feature ensures that even off-center strikes still produce excellent results. In their design process, Cobra also utilized artificial intelligence and machine learning to help perfect the LTDx driver.
Zero CGNA
One of the notable advancements in the Cobra LTDx is the Zero CGNA technology. This innovation allows for the center of gravity (CG) to be positioned extremely low and deep within the clubhead, providing impressive forgiveness and a high launch.
The driver's back weight further contributes to keeping the CG low, resulting in a more prominent sweet spot and a more consistent ball flight.
The adjustable hosel is another feature that allows you to customize the driver's performance. This permits alterations to the loft, lie, and face angle, providing the optimal settings for your particular swing.
