Cobra Aerojet and headcover

In this article, I'm going to share my Cobra Aerojet Driver Review, from the perspective of an amateur who has 20+ years experience playing golf, after hitting over 40 balls with it in the Trackman studio.

Like the Cobra LTDx driver, one of my favorite drivers, the Aerojet prides itself on being forgiving for golfers who don't always square up contact in the center of the sweet spot. I will break down my thoughts on the various features after hitting a variety of drivers all vying for our attention (and money!).

Read this HONEST review before you make that purchase decision. I've also reviewed the Aerojet's brother, the Aerojet MAX, if you want to check that out.

Cobra Aerojet Driver Review in Short

The Cobra Aerojet is a fun driver to hit. The club's look is decent, and I do enjoy the touch of blue added in.

If you’re looking for a new driver that is now VERY reasonably priced and reliable, the Aerojet is a notable choice will not let you down in terms of the high forgiveness and worthy distance in this price range.

Pros and Cons of the Cobra Aerojet Driver

Pros

  • Significantly high forgiveness

  • Great distance and ball speed.

  • Slight draw bias

  • Value for price.

Cons

  • Adjustability is limited in comparison to competitor drivers.

Cobra Aerojet Driver Performance

Specs of the Cobra Aerojet I tested: 9.0 Degrees of Loft, Standard Lie, Standard Length, Regular Flex, Mitsubishi Chemical Kai'li White 60 gram graphite shaft.

I tested the Aerojet indoors with Trackman using Titleist Pro V1 RCT (Radar Capture Technology) golf balls. Over the testing session, I hit a total of 43 drives with it. Here is the data from my testing session:

Avg

Speed

Factor

219.71

89.60 mph

128.26 mph

1.43

You will see some disparity in my numbers here compared to some of the drivers I have hit more recently, such as the newer Cobra DARKSPEED MAX and TaylorMade Qi10 MAX.

This is because I have been working hard on my driver swing and it has been transformed over the last while, since hitting the Aerojet, to a place where I am now getting the most I can out of every driver I hit.

If anything, the disparity in numbers doesn't take away from the Aerojet, but leans on how important it is to improve your swing and take full advantage of each driver's benefits.

Appearance: B+

The Aerojet driver's looks have grown on me after initially thinking it was a bit of a step back compared to it's predecessor, the LTDx. At first, the look seemed almost a bit "toyish", not in a negative way but more just not very intimidating.

The more I got used to it, the more I like it.

The sleek carbon fiber finish and unique stretched bullet shape make the Aerojet driver stand out. The shape is modern and well-proportioned.

Back of Cobra Aerojet

The shaping is neither too round nor too elongated, striking a perfect balance that is appealing.

The seamless aerodynamic design of the Aerojet includes a raised skirt, and symmetrical shape. The crown of the Aerojet is mainly covered in dark grey carbon fiber, accompanied by a thin edge of matte black. The blue and white addition is what started to grow on me.

Aerojet PWRSHELL

I would rank it in somewhere in the second tier of drivers in terms of appearance. If Cobra would have continued to have the infinity symbol as the sweet spot center-face, I would have maybe bumped the appearance up to an A-.

Sound: A

The sound of the Aerojet driver on contact is fantastic. It sounds like a very controlled "snap", which does enhance the experience of using it.

It isn't overly loud and sounds very pure, especially when you hit the center face. You won't get tired of hearing the Aerojet when you're crushing it off the tee.

Forgiveness/Feel: A

The forgiveness of the Aerojet driver is its bread and butter. You will get all the help you need as an amateur when you're not on your A game with your driver.

Your hits away from the sweet spot will get great assistance in terms of ball speed and distance. While my opinion is they took a step back from the LTDx in looks, they matched, if not surpassed it, when it comes to forgiveness.

The feel of the Aerojet is just like the name indicates, very free and easy thanks to the aerodynamic design considerations. The carbon fiber crown aids in enhancing the aerodynamics, really allowing for a smoother swing through the air.

Distance: A-

The Cobra Aerojet delivers low spin, which can be advantageous for improving control over the ball and adding distance. In addition, the Aerojet produces consistent ball speed to help realize the potential for distance gains.

As mentioned above, my numbers from testing don't necessarily represent that, however, even with the swing speed that I had during (under 90 mph average) the Aerojet was still generating over 128 mph ball speed on average.

While it may not be up there with some of the longest drivers, it still provides solid and consistent distance while keeping you in play on your less than perfect swings.

Accuracy: A

The Aerojet has an inherent draw bias and maintains a commendable level of accuracy. At least, it worked very well with my swing.

The dispersion pattern remains relatively tight due to the Aerojet’s well-balanced weighting and aerodynamic design. The ball flight is very predictable given the consistency off the face.

The Aerojet also features an adjustable loft sleeve, which enables altering of the loft, face angle, and lie to achieve desired ball flight and trajectory.

Overall Swing Enjoyment: A

The Aerojet was a lot of fun to swing. The forgiveness and sound, along with the easy flow feeling of the aerodynamic head through the air, all synergize into an enjoyable experience hitting balls with this driver.

Value: Is the Cobra Aerojet Worth It?

The Cobra Aerojet offers a compelling combination of decent looks, fantastic sound, and outstanding forgiveness through its enhanced stability and improved playability via the lightweight construction and aerodynamic design.

When you are talking about return on your money, and the value for what you spend, the Aerojet is up there. At the time of this article, the Aerojet is available for as low as $299. At that price, the Aerojet value is spectacular.

I recommend the Cobra Aerojet for golfers searching for a well-rounded driver that won’t let you down, and want to get a good deal.

Aerojet Driver Technology

The technology included in the Aerojet driver can be broken down as:

Aerodynamic Features

The Cobra Aerojet boasts a slimmer shape with raised skirts and streamlined edges, helping reduce drag and optimize the overall clubhead speed.

Aerojet HOT Face

This aerodynamic efficiency and the AI-generated hot club face ensure impressive distance potential.

PWR-Bridge Technology

One of the standout features of the Aerojet driver is the PWR-Bridge technology, which takes the place of the PWR-COR found in the LTDx.

The PWR-Bridge, a strategically placed piece of steel on the bottom of the driver's head, adds strength and stability to the club while enhancing speed and distance via its unique construction.

Forged PWRSHELL Face Insert

The Aerojet driver incorporates a forged PWRSHELL face insert, contributing to consistently powerful shots.

This face technology expands the sweet spot, resulting in higher ball speeds and increased forgiveness on both center and off-center hits.

Carbon Fiber Crown and Chassis

Integrating carbon fiber for the crown and chassis is a vital aspect of the Aerojet design. Using carbon fiber makes for the best of both worlds: a lighted yet strong clubhead.

By doing so, more weight can be strategically positioned for a low center of gravity, significantly improving the club's stability, and this is felt when you grip the Aerojet.

FAQ

Is the Aerojet Driver Good for High Handicappers?

Yes, the Cobra Aerojet driver is suitable for high handicappers.

The driver offers a combination of distance, forgiveness, and adjustability that can benefit golfers with higher handicaps.

The Aerojet Max, in particular, is geared toward players needing additional forgiveness and stability on off-center hits.

Who Should Play the Cobra Aerojet Driver?

In the case of the Cobra Aerojet, this club is designed for a wide range of abilities but particularly shines for those looking to improve their distance off the tee.

  • Beginners: The club's high MOI and low spin numbers generate consistent ball speeds, helping to build confidence and improve their game.

  • Mid Handicappers: Players with some experience might appreciate the Aerojet's impressive versatility and balanced performance.

  • Lower handicap golfers: For those seeking the edge in distance, the Aerojet driver delivers with its lightning-fast ball speeds and high launch capabilities. The low spin it offers translates to even more yards off the tee, making this club an excellent choice for seasoned players pursuing optimal results. While the Aerojet has these capabilities, more low handicap players who want less spin will probably want to check out the Aerojet LS model.
